Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is The Blue Marble Academy?

The Blue Marble Academy is a woman owned tutoring business that specializes in inquiry-based learning strategies that align with the Ontario curriculum. Services offered are homework help, test prep, customized tutoring plans, coding classes, day camps, credit granting courses, summer “look ahead” programs and workshops.

What is our tutoring approach?

All tutoring sessions are 1-on-1 with an instructor. This allows us to understand the student’s interests, strengths and areas for growth to provide enhanced programs so students are always engaged and growing their skills. A parent/guardian can request that their student receive additional practice materials to take home to further their learning outside of the classroom.

How do I enrol in The Blue Marble Academy’s tutoring programs?

Before a student enrolls in our tutoring programs, we have an advisor speak with the parents/guardians via a complimentary Discovery Session to discuss whether we’re a good fit for their student.

We discuss the student’s availability to regularly meet with an instructor, where they stand academically, and their learning goals, and review general details of how to best support the student.

How do I enrol in The Blue Marble Academy’s coding programs?

Before a student enrolls in our coding programs, we have an advisor speak with the parents/guardians via a complimentary Discovery Session to discuss whether we’re a good fit for their student.

We discuss the student’s availability to regularly meet with an instructor, their experience level with coding, their coding goals and review our different programs that best align with the student and their skills.

How do I sign up for The Blue Marble Academy’s day camps?

To register for our day camps there is no requirement to have a complimentary Discovery session, although if you’d like to chat to one of our advisors you’re welcome to do so.

We have a dedicated webpage for our day camps which you can access at the top of our website, click there to find the registration button. When registering you will also be provided a waiver form that will include asking for your student’s emergency contact numbers, IHOP number and an optional consent for photos.

Note: When dropping off your student/s to camp, please come into the unit so staff can see you dropping them off and sign them into the program and when picking up your student/s. Please bring a photo ID to show staff that you are a registered pick up person so they can sign out the student/s. We take child safety seriously and want to ensure we are aware when a student arrives instead our care and that we only sign children out with their registered pick up people.

My child is so far behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic, how will they get back on track?

We are well versed in the Ontario Education program and can collaborate with all school boards. We can build a specialized program to help your child not just catch up but also enhance their knowledge and get them re-engaged with learning!

How many hours per week should my child spend with a tutor?

It is recommended that our students spend two, one hour sessions a week. We have found once a week does not yield substantial results as there is too much time in between each session. The best results are found with three hours or four sessions per week, however, it varies depending on the student’s needs, program and preferred outcome.

Can my child's day school teacher be in touch with you to align their studies?

We prefer this approach! We love to be in touch with teachers and have found the best success rates when we all work together for the success of the student. We have however encountered some challenges with consent forms on the school end, but teachers have generally helped by being in touch during lunch breaks and after school. We will work as best as we can to align with your child's teacher!

Who will my child be meeting with?

We hire a variety of experiences, from certified Ontario teachers to University students planning on going into teaching, or those who enjoy sharing their knowledge. All our tutors are trained in our holistic method which includes engagement of the student through to tracking and meeting goals. We accept nothing but the best in client satisfaction and student success!

How long have you been in business?

The Blue Marble Academy has existed since 2013, but considering all the changes since then we have re-branded to align with the current expectations of the Ontario curriculum. We are focused on teaching with holistic, inquiry-based practices that promotes students’ confidence in the classroom.

Are you a daycare?

Though we love teaching and spending time with children, we are not a daycare.

Do you offer online and in-person tutoring?

We offer both in-person and online tutoring services. In-person services take place at our learning centre located in King city, ON.

Financial

Can any fees be subsidized?

At this time, we are not aware of any programs that can subsidize tutoring. We do offer assistance provided by The Blue Marble Academy for those that may need our services and cannot afford it. Please contact us directly if you or someone you know may fall into this category. We will do our best to work with those that qualify.

How much do your programs cost?

The costs depend on the program (based on services, frequency and duration). We offer discounts for multiple children in the same household as well as referral programs.

What is the 'Donate-an-hour' program about?

We offer tutoring to children who may not have access to additional support due to financial reasons or other. Contact Us directly if you have any questions or check out our blog Here.
